Nick Troutman Reviews the Jackson Kayak Rocker

The Rocker: This is by far my favorite creek boat that I have ever paddled. It is so easy to paddle, roll, plug, and BOOF! This boat makes every creek or river run super easy, by taking away a lot of worry of flipping from rocks, or not making a boof, or getting pushed around by curler waves, as well as having the safest outfitting in the world(see the Uni-Shock video below), it is bomb proof.

Pros:

  • This boat has a displacement hull, taking in the impact on larger boofs, as well as helping deflect rocks when you hit them instead to caching an edge and flipping.
  • High water line on the deck of the boat, keeping the boat on the surface of the water, and deflecting waves, instead of submerging under them.
  • Uni-Shock Bulk head system is by far the safest bulk head system on the market, with an easily adjustable bulk head system, and built in impact system you can paddle safely, and in seconds let your friend paddled and have the boat adjusted for him/her in seconds.

  • Cross-link plastic is used for the Rocker as well as ever Jackson Kayak. This is just straight up stringer plastic, being able to bend TWICE as far before breaking, can handle TWICE the abrasion as the other plastics being used.
  • This boat is dry, like all the Jackson Kayaks, it has no holes drilled into the boat, making it the driest boat ever. Though there is a drain hole in the back, for those who need to empty out after a swim.
  • Strong comfortable grab handles that are easy for holding, carrying, pulling, and any safety needed.
  • The easy-to-carry handle on the inside of the boat, is just a webbing strap mounted to the front wall, though this makes the boat so much easier to carry while portaging or hiking, it rocks.

Cons:

  • There are no edges on the boat, making it harder to carve on an eddy line or while surfing a wave.
  • With the high water line and large rocker this boat is not as fast as others for creek races.

The Verdict:

This boat can do it all, it will take a class3-4 boater to a class 4-5 boater, it will keep your ankles safe with the bulk head system, it will keep you dry by having no holes in the boat, it will float you high and easy to paddle over any obstacles, and is the easiest boat ever to boof anything. This boat is for the beginner creeker or river runner who wants that extra confidence, all the way to the expedition boater running the hardest rivers, creeks, waterfalls, or rapids. This boat is a confidence burst for anyone paddling it.

They say that a picture is worth a 1000 words so hopefully these photos/video will speak for the Rocker Series:

Uhhh....70 MPH, 128 feet, 5000 CFS...New World Record. Puttin' the Uni-Shock to the test.
